After the mighty lx6 we had to jump back into the tiny gti for this race, what a difference! Roly and Norbi were already beating the WR times online, however neither of them put it in a hlvc. With the championship already won by Norbi, the exciting part was a little more down the overall standings. Me, Bobbi, Palee and Prezsi had the chance to finish 4th overall, with my chances the best of all. In the team standings there was also a big fight between Inferno and Torn to Pieces, with only 2 points separating Palee & Gergő and Vertic & me. The things were looking good for TtP to secure the 3rd place in the overall standings for the 2nd season in a row. More about that later.
The qualifying was done in evening mode, which really made the job of several drivers hard, they just couldn't get used to the new conditions. Of course Norbi wasn't hindered by all of this, he put in a fantastic lap of 1:27.15, which is 0.25 faster, than the current WR held by MacEST! Norbi out in front again, but the rest of the field was very close. Until the very last second I was in 2nd place, with 1:27.62, Roly behind me with a difference of 0.01 and king in 4th with a gap of another few hundreds. But Roly in his last lap, did what I hoped he wouldn't do, after having a 2nd split almost a tenth slower, than I had in my fastest lap, he crossed the line with a time of 1:27.61...well, that wasn't very nice of you Roly!:-)) I had to finish the season, with no front row starts this time. The first three were the same, as back in the mrt5 race on green. Norbi, Roly and me, I was already hoping for a race like it was in august. :-)
Here is the starting order:
1. Norbi 1:27.15
2. Roly 1:27.61
3. csűrdöngülős 1:27.62
4. king 1:27.65
5. Vertic 1:27.82
6. ÁjjLE Bobbi 1:27.92
7. Marki 1:28.05
8. Prezsi 1:28.32
9. bond 1:28.34
10. cactus 1:28.36
11. atib 1:28.40
12. Palee 1:28.43
13. Zoleszzz 1:28.74
14. laube 1:28.80
15. TasMan 1:28.89
16. Light 1:29.04
17. domino 1:29.35
18. Chase 1:29.64
19. speedy 1:29.74
20. Tom 1:30.11
21. Reechy 1:30.26
22. voicegab 1:30.88
23. Gergő 1:31.28
24. Csti 1:40.00
*Csti had internet problems and couldn’t do any flying laps, he was placed at the back of the grid, but he couldn’t make the start either unfortunately
The positions didn't change until, the chicane, but then it all broke loose, with Zoleszzz being the first one to fall at the chicane, after trying a risky passing maneuveur on Palee on the inside. The latter touched his cars back and Zoleszzz went straight into the tyres.
Norbi also made a little mistake coming out of the chicane, which allowed Roly to pass him on the outside to take the lead. However Norbi braked a bit too late, touched Roly from the back, who was forced to the outside line, while Norbi was taking back his 1st place. I was there right behind those two guys, to profit from any mistakes of theirs.
But Roly gave Norbi a little push, to pay back the 2nd corner incident, which resulted in Norbi's falling back to 5th place. In the next tiny left-right-left twitch in the battle for 6th place, Bobbi pushed Marki in the back a little, but it was enough for both of them to go sideways, but into the opposite direction. Bobbi rejoined in 14th, while Marki in 10th.
Meanwhile king was right on my tail, and after the 2nd split he tried to pass me on the inside, but that meant the outside line for him in the next corner so I could keep 2nd position.
Norbi was trying to profit from a mistake of Vertic, but he was too aggressive and simply pushed my teammate out of the way, to earn 4th place.
The race was settling down a bit, although the chicane caused problems for a lot of drivers, it was especially difficult to get it right in these conditions. At least there was no wind this time. :-)
Prezsi was doing a constant race, keeping his nerves and not throwing away too much time, he was rewarded with a good finishing position. Vertic was running safely in 4th place, after many smaller or bigger mistakes made by king. King himself was catching up to the others all the time during the race, he just wasn't constant enough to use his speed to finish further up the field, but he still got 5th place in the end. Marki was also catching up after the first lap incident with Bobbi, he had great fights with king and he finished in 6th place thanx to a mistake by Bond, who finished 7th.
Bobbi however, just couldn't keep focused and he missed the chicane on 5 occasions out of 10 (roughly) and he left the game. By that move he lost all his chances to secure 4th place in the overall standings. As he was my closest rival, I already felt quite secure about finishing well in front of my rivals, hence not allowing them to take my 4th place in the standings away from me. Palee had an eventful race, unfortunately full of mistakes, the mrt5 race here wasn't his best either. It seems like you don't like FE green, do you? :-)
TasMan wasn't in top form either, he made too many mistakes, which prevented him from finishing in a better position. Atib, cactus and laube have established themselves as regular group A racers now, however they haven't had a particularly good race, they used the mistakes of others to move up the field, but later they made errors themselves and lost their relatively good positions.
Meanwhile Roly was pulling away from me, with constantly good laptimes. In the 22nd lap Norbi finally caught up with me and passed me on the inside down the hill. He gave a little push to me, but I still don't know if it was my mistake (pulling to the inside too much) or his (letting the car go too much the left). Well, it doesn't really matter, he was much faster than I. :-)
At this time Roly was about 6 seconds ahead of Norbi, who was clearly faster, and eventually closed the gap to about 2 seconds, but later he made mistakes to give Roly a comfortable advantage, who took a very good victory for the 2nd time in a row. Congratulations! Norbi finished in 2nd, and Vertic in 3rd.
Wait where am I? Oh, yes! I was running safely in 3rd place, when my Internet service provider decided to terminate my connection. Well, I can't say I was really happy about that, but that's life. :-) So Prezsi finished 4th, king 5th, who almost got Prezsi in the final lap. You can check out the complete results here:
My disconnection resulted in falling back to 6th place in the overall standings, Palee and Prezsi both finished ahead, but what's more, we missed the 3rd place in the team standings as well, by 7 points or so. I was really disappointed about all this.
In group B Light had the pole and the lead for a long time, but Gergő was catching up through the race. Light also had some technical problems, which made his race even more difficult (he had some lighting problems, the gamma on his monitor went crazy).
It was about midway through the race, when Gergő caught up with Light, who having difficulties to see the racetrack, when someone was near him, decided to let him pass and try to bring home 2nd place. He succeeded in doing so.
The last place on the podium was taken by domino, who together with Reechy form a very good team, they certainly don't lack in enthusiasm, although they aren't the fastest around. But it's the fun that counts, not the laptimes, right? :-)
Here are the results.
Well, our 2nd season of S1 has come to end now, with some surprises and good races all in all. Norbi is the Hungarian LFS League champion again, congrats! Roly has the silver medal, and king13 the bronze. With both of them in their first S1 season, it is a really great achievement. They form the team RX7 together, which secured the victory in the team championship, beating Norbi and Marki. Good job guys! Inferno finished in 3rd position, after last seasons 2nd place, they may be a little bit disappointed, but congrats anyways!
